One of them is the festival of Ekadashi which is celebrated 24 times a year and twice a month. But out of these 24 Ekadashis, the most loved Ekadashi is of Lord Vishnu ie. The Aja Ekadashi which falls on the Krishna Paksha of the month of Bhadrapada.

Ajay Ekadashi is classified as one of the most difficult Ekadashis. On this day it becomes mandatory to observe a fast in the right manner.
Following are its rules and method-
Step 1- it is important to follow holiness, self-restraint and celibacy.
Step 2- it is advisable to take the resolution of the fast after the morning bath. The fast can also be kept by considering it in the mind with true devotion.
Step 3- the Tulsi loving Lord Vishnu must be offered with Tulsi leaves at his feet.
Step 4- on the day of Ekadashi one has to remain without eating and drinking. Fruits can only be consumed if it becomes necessary.
Step 5- you must stay awake during the night by meditating on 'Shri Hari'.
Steps 6- it is important to donate to the brahmins on the day of Ekadashi.
- You must not pluck Tulsi leaves on the day of Ekadashi. It is advisable to collect the leaves one day in advance for worship.
- do not keep any kind of trick or treat in your mind.
- avoid making physical contact with your spouse.
The Ajay Ekadashi is of great importance to attain salvation and virtues. It is believed that by observing this beloved fast of Lord Vishnu which pleases him a lot and he removes all the sins of his devotees and fixes a place for them in heaven. A person observes this fast in order to fulfil his / her wishes. This fast is so important that by keeping one fast of this Ekadashi, a person attains fruits and virtues equal to the Ashwamedha Yagya.
According to the mythological believes there was a king named Harishchandra in ancient times who was handling his Kingdom in a very organized manner. He would keep the subjects like his children but it was time to bear the sins of his previous life in this birth. This was the reason that many problems started coming in front of him. The situation was so terrifying that he had to leave his kingdom and country and settle down in the forest. The king lived in the forest and worked under a Hangman e that the hangman gave him (chandala) he had to live with the money that the hangman gave him. The situation was so poor that he was not able to eat food twice a day. Once the sage Gautama was passing through that forest when the king's eye fell on the sage and he told him about his problems to the sage and started asking for a solution to end his sufferings. Seth showing Mercy to the king's dilemma asked him to keep the fast of Ajay Ekadashi as a remedy to his problem. On the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of the month of Bhadrapada, the King observed the fast of Ajay Ekadashi with complete devotion and dedication in order to wash away all his troubles. After this, the king ruled his Kingdom happily until his last breath.
