Lori is basically the festival of Punjab and Haryana. The festival of lorry begins early in the morning and on this day people greet each other with great enthusiasm. In India during Lohri, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi have declared an official holiday where this festival is celebrated by Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims and also Christians. But on this day there is no holiday for the Punjab of Pakistan. However, it seems that the Lori is celebrated by Sikhs and some Muslims in Punjab of Pakistan too. The important purpose of celebrating Lohri-

Let me tell you that the festival of Lohri twins with the Bikram calendar and the Makar Sankranti which is celebrated in the sectors of Punjab as Maghi Sangra. Lori is celebrated in the honor of the passing of the mid-winter season. This festival is celebrated according to the Bikram calendar to welcome the new financial year of the farmers. Recovery is made during this time and hence it is celebrated as the new financial year.

Lohri is one of the most important festivals of Punjab and Haryana but it is now widely celebrated in is immensely popular among various regions and parts of the country and it is celebrated by all with great joy and enthusiasm. On this day farmers show their gratitude for the good and abundance of rich crops.

On this day all the kids go from house to house singing folk songs and they are given sweets, sevaiyan and sometimes money too. Children should not return empty-handed as it is considered inauspicious. On this day gajak, Jaggery peanuts and popcorn are also distributed. At night the money collected by the children is distributed among all. During this time people born bonfires and then food items such as peanut Jaggery and gajak etc distributed among all. On the night of Florence maize breads, sarso da sagh and kheer are prepared.

In some parts of Punjab, the kite flying is also popular on this day. While talking about Lohri in other parts of India such as in Andhra Pradesh the day before Makar Sankranti is known as Bhogi. On this day usually all old things are discarded and new things are brought into focus.

 

Let me tell you that there are many folktales about the festival of Lohri

According to the folklore, during ancient times, Lori was celebrated at the end of the traditional month when the winter period took place. On those days this day was celebrated when the sun sets out on its successive journey. The following day of Lohri is celebrated as Maghi Sangrand.
