In order to attain all the happiness, one should keep fast of the Margashirsha Purnima that falls in the holy month and the fast should be observed with full faith and complete rituals. You can attain the benefits of fast if you follow all the vidhi and rituals. In such a situation, fast will be useful only in that situation if it is kept followed by all the rituals in the correct manner.
Step 1- One should take vows of fast while taking the name of Lord Narayan in the morning.
Step 2- After taking the vows of the fast one must take a bath.
Step 3-One must chant 'Om Namo Narayana' and offer flowers to God.
Step 4- It is important to perform a Havan on this day. Before performing havan vedi should be made at the place of puja. Ghee and white sugar should be used in the Havan.
Step 5- After performing the Havan one should remember the name of the Lord with faith and dedicate the fast to God.
Step 6- One should try to sleep near the temple place at home.
Step 7- Food and useful things should be donated to needy people.

According to the beliefs, to get special blessings on Margashirsha Purnima the devotees should use Basil roots soil for bathing. The importance of this Purnima is more than any other Purnima because the reward of donation on this day is a lot more than others Purnima. That is the reason it is also called by a Battisi Purnima.
