Narasimha Jayanti is another important festival among Hindus and is celebrated on the Vaishakh Chaturdashi (14th day) of Shukla Paksha. Narasimha is the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, where he emerged as a human-lion with a lion-like face and a trunk like a man. He killed the demon Hiranyakashyap on this day. On this day, devotees of Lord Vishnu keep fast for the whole day.

 

It is to be known that Narasimha Chaturdashi day appeared at sunset and that is why worship is done during those hours. The aim of Narasimha Jayanti is to abolish unrighteousness and follow the path of righteousness. Religion is to do right and not harm anyone. In 2021, Narasimha Jayanti is scheduled to fall on Tuesday, 25 May.

 

Rituals performed on Narasimha Jayanti

 

On this day special pooja is performed with the idol or picture of Lord Narasimha and Goddess Lakshmi.

 

Devotees should wake up early and take a bath during the Brahma Muhurta. They should wear new and fresh clothes.

 

Devotees should worship Vishnu and offer gram dal and jaggery to him. Flowers, sweets, kumkum, saffron and coconut should be offered to Lord Vishnu in the puja ceremony.

 

On this day the fast starts from sunrise and is kept till the next day sunrise. Most of the devotees do not eat anything on this day.

 

To please God, reciting Narasimha Mantra with Rudraksha Mala is considered very beneficial, which leads to a meaningful life.

 

Donating clothes, precious metals, and sesame on this day to the poor is considered very auspicious and beneficial.

 

Importance of Narasimha Jayanti

 

Lord Narasimha represents power and victory. According to beliefs and religious texts, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Lord Narasimha on this day to eliminate Hiranyakashipu and establish Dharma. Therefore, this day is celebrated across the country as Narasimha Jayanti.

 

Lord Narasimha is the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Narasimha was half human and half lion. He killed Hiranyakashyap. Narasimha avatar is explained in many religious texts. According to Hindu scriptures, Kashyapa and his wife, Diti, who had two sons, Harinaksha and Hiranyakashyapa. Lord Vishnu killed Harinaksha to protect the earth. For this reason Hiranyakashyap wanted to avenge his brother. He did penance to please Lord Brahma and he was blessed as a result. After this Hiranyakashipu wanted to kill his son Prahlad because he worshiped Lord Vishnu but to save him, Lord Vishnu incarnated Narasimha and saved him and killed Hiranyakashyap.

 

Thus, the aim of Narasimha Jayanti is to end wrongdoing and follow the path of righteousness. Religion is to do right and not harm anyone. And it will be celebrated on Tuesday, 25 May in 2021.
