Pausha Putrada Ekadashi is considered a holy fast day observed by the Vaishnavas. This day falls on Ekadashi during the Shukla Paksha of Pausha month according to the traditional Hindu calendar. In the English calendar, it comes from the month of December to January. The word Putrada in Hindi means the giver of son's and since this Ekadashi Falls during the Hindu month of Pausha, it is known as Pausha Putrada Ekadashi. This Ekadashi is mainly observed by the couple who wants to have a son. On this day Lord Vishnu is a worksheet with full dedication and energy. The Pausha Putrada Ekadashi is considered very auspicious for devotees of Lord Vishnu especially in the Northern states of the country. In some parts of South India, Pausha Putrada Ekadashi is celebrated as’ Vaikuntha Ekadashi’, ‘Swargatil Ekadashi ‘or ‘Mukoti Ekadashi’.

Pausha Putrada Ekadashi is a fast mainly celebrated by women who wish to have a son. This day is devoted to Lord Vishnu so that he may bless them with a son. The couple's pray to their deity for their children's good health. During the fast, the food is not consumed at all and this fast is kept for 24 hours. Even those who do not follow the Pausha Putrada Ekadashi fast should also avoid eating serials crisis beans and too many spices and vegetables on this day.
The couples who aspire to have a son, both husband and wife should observe this fast on Pausha Putrada Ekadashi. If one cannot keep a whole day fast then he/she may also observe a partial fast and this is equally fruitful.
On the day of Pausha Putrada Ekadashi, the couple should I stay awake the whole night by singing devotional songs of Lord Vishnu. Apart from this, reciting Vishnu Sahasranama and other important Vedic mantras is also considered to be very auspicious on this day. The devotees should also visit the nearby temples of Lord Vishnu as special pooja and bhajan kirtan are held on this day.
