Whereas according to the Hindu calendar, when there is a full moon of Phalgun month during Shukla Paksha then that particular Purnima is called Phalgun Purnima. This day falls in the month of February or March according to the Gregorian calendar. There are many other festivals celebrated in the month of Phalgun such as Holi, Maha Shivaratri and Vasant Panchami. People keep fasting on this full moon day.


What is the significance of Phalgun Purnima?

According to the Hindu calendar, Phalgun Purnima is considered to be the last full moon, the day when the festival of Holi is celebrated. On this special day, at various places, people also celebrate Lakshmi Jayanti, which is the birth anniversary of Goddess Lakshmi, that is, who we consider being the goddess of wealth. According to Hindu beliefs, those who observe Phalgun Purnima and worship Lord Vishnu and Lord Moon on this day receive divine blessings of the deity and also get rid of their present and past sins. Therefore, fasting on this full moon day of Phalgun is considered very auspicious and thousands of people keep it.
 

What are the rituals of Phalgun Purnima?

On the day of Phalgun Purnima, devotees should wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath in the holy rivers as it is considered very necessary as it is considered very auspicious and fortunate.

After taking a holy bath, devotees should offer prayers to Lord Vishnu and the Moon in the temple or in the workshop or house.

Devotees should recite the Satyanarayana Katha after the ritual of Vishnu Puja.

Whereas devotees should visit and worship any nearby temple of Lord Vishnu. After this, the fast can be broken.

It is considered very auspicious and beneficial to chant the Gayatri Mantra and the "Om Namo Narayan" mantra continuously 1008 times.

People should donate as much as possible on the eve of Phalgun Purnima. You can donate food, clothes and money to those who need it in charity.
