The Shankaracharya Jayanti is celebrated on the Panchami tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakh. If we consider the scriptures, it is believed that Adi Guru Shankaracharya is the incarnation of Lord Shiva. In 2021, Adi Shankara Jayanti will be celebrated on 17 May. The guru was born in a Brahmin Namboodiri family based in Kerala. His parents, Shiv Guru and Vishta Devi were great devotees of Lord Shiva. He was a great philosopher and a religious Guru of the Hindu community.

As mentioned above Guru Shankaracharya was an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Considering this let me tell you that there are many legendary stories regarding his life. We will discuss below why he is considered as an avatar of Lord Shiva.

At the real age of 2, guru Shankaracharya described the open issues and the Vedas. Yes, you heard it right. This is shocking as well as the truth. It is said that Guru Shankaracharya at the age of two, learnt all those things which were required to know about the opener shirts and Vedas. Later on, when he was 7 years old he started living an ascetic life.

Being pleased by them lord Shiva blessed him with a child. But God also made a condition that his son would become a very great philosopher and a legendary person but he would live a very short life. If they want their son to have a longer life then the sun will not emerge as a scholar in front of them.
 

In this situation, Shiv Guru asked for a son who would leave a very short life but would be an excellent scholar at the same time. Lord Shiva was extremely happy and pleased with his answer which is why it is believed that he himself took the form of Shankaracharya and took birth in the house of Shiv Guru. On the Shukla Paksha of Panchami date in the month of Vaishakh, lord Shiva was born into to Shiv Gurus and Vishta Devi's house. The little boy who was the expression of Adi Guru was named Shankar and later came to be known as Shankaracharya.

On the day of Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti, Puja and Havan are organized in temples and other religious places. The followers and believers of Sanatana Dharma organize special programs and celebrate this day with great enthusiasm. Processions are also taken out in many places on the occasion of Shankaracharya Jayanti in which a large number of devotees attend. They are seen singing bhajan and kirtans during the procession.
