Today we are going to tell you about a very attractive temple. Which is made of granite stone. This temple is famous all over the world for its beauty. The name of this temple is Shore Temple which is located in the city of Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu. It is one of the oldest temples in South India. This temple is believed to be of the eighth century. UNESCO has declared the Shore Temple as a World Heritage. This temple is the temple of Lord Vishnu and Shiva. Millions of devotees come from far and wide to witness the beauty and artefacts of the temple.

History of Shore Temple
The history of Shore temple is told very old. It is said that this temple was built in the eighth century. The temple was built during the reign of King Narasimha Varman II of the Pallava dynasty. During the rule of the Pallava dynasty, the Shore Temple was constructed in a very amazing and strange way. Actually, stones were cut to build this temple and the temple was built with the same stones. A few years ago a stone wall was built in front of the temple. So that no damage to the temple is caused by the erosion of the sea. Let us tell you that due to the tsunami in the year 2004, the temple was heavily damaged and some part of it was destroyed.

Many temples of Shore Temple
Three temples are located in the premises of Shore Temple. There is a big temple and two more temples. The main and largest temple of Shor temple is 5 storey. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. There is a large Shiva lingam of Lord Shiva in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. On which Jalabhishek is performed. There is a temple of Lord Vishnu in the center of the main temple, while there is a temple of Lord Shiva on both sides. The main temple is 60 feet high and is spread over 50 feet square.

The ocean waves hitting the Shore Temple present a unique view. Due to which the beauty of the temple increases manifold. The temple has five Pandava chariots, which are the main attraction. Four of these chariots are named after Pandavas, but the fifth chariot is known as Draupadi. The artisans of these chariots located in the temple are designed in such a way that everyone gets surprised on seeing them.

Why did the name Shor temple
The name of this temple is Shore Temple. The reason behind this ... is that very close to the Shore Temple is the Bay of Bengal, due to which the noise is coming, this temple was named Shore Temple.

Legend of Shore Temple

According to the legend of the Shore temple, it is said that the demon king Hiranyakashyap and his son Prahlada are related to this temple. Lord Vishnu killed Hiranyakashyap at this place. After which Prahlada was made king. According to this legend, it is believed that King Mahabali, son of King Prahlada, built this temple.
