Sita Navami which is also known as Sita Jayanti or Janki Navami is an important Hindu festival which is devoted to the goddess Sita. This day is celebrated because on this day goddess Sita was born and according to the Hindu calendar of the Vaishakh month in Shukla Paksha on a Navami, Sita Navami is celebrated. It is believed that goddess Sita was born during Pushya Nakshatra. According to the legendary people, lord Ram was born in Chaitra month and the festival of Ram Navami takes place one month before the festival of Sita Navami. The Hindu married women worship goddess Sita on this day and pray for their husband’s long life and success and seek her blessings. The festival of Sita Navami is celebrated with full enthusiasm all over India. In 2021 Sita Navami will be celebrated on 21st May.
 

The rituals of Sita Navami-

On the day of Sita Navami, the Hindu devotees especially the married woman worship Lord Ram and Lord Lakshman along with the goddess Sita. A small Puja Mandapa is decorated with colourful flowers on this day. In this Mandap is the idol of Lord Rama, Goddess Sita, along with Lakshman, King Janaka and mother Sunyana are placed. Since goddess Sita was born from the Earth, on this day the planet earth is also worshipped. Worshipping Goddess Sita and Lord Rama on this day brings happiness and satisfaction in married life. Devotees worship by offering various items in the form of seasmon, rice, barley and fruits. A special Bhog is also prepared on this day which is distributed as the Prasad after the completion of the Aarti.

Let me tell you that on this day, special rituals and prayers are organized in the temples of Lord Rama and goddess Janki across the country. Rituals like Shringar Darshan, Maha Abhishekam and Aarti are performed in all these temples. Also, stories of Ramayana and bhajan programs are also organized by people at various places.


The importance of Sita Navami-

Sita Navami holds a very important significance for the Hindu devotees. It is believed that goddess Sita is the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. Goddess Lakshmi is known as the mother of all mortal and other living beings. Goddess Sita was the adopted daughter of King Janaka and she is widely known as 'Janaki'. Lord Ram married Sita in a’ swayamvar’ which was organized by King Janaka in his Kingdom of Mithila.

Goddess Sita was always known for her patience and dedication towards her husband Sri Ram. The married woman offers prayers to goddess Sita on this auspicious day to bless them with purity and honesty. It is believed that by performing Pooja and rituals and keeping a fast on Sita Navami, one is blessed with a happy and satisfactory married life.
