History of Ranganathaswamy Temple
The history of the temple is quite ancient. The temple is believed to date back to the 10th century. The inscriptions located in the temple are believed to belong to the Chola, Pandya, Hoysala and Vijayanagar dynasties. The architecture of the temple has been flourished under his rule. Around the year 1310 Malik Kafur attacked the temple and he took away the statue of Ranganathaswamiji. After which Vishnu devotees withdrew the idol from him. It is said that the great kings and emperors rebuilt the temple and made their contribution. According to mythology, it is believed that Lord Rama worshiped the deities for a long time in the temple of Ranganath ji. When Ram ji had a battle with Ravana, Rama God slaughtered Ravana and handed over Vibhishan to Lanka. When Vibhishan was returning from Ayodhya to Lanka, Lord Vishnu appeared to him on the way that he wanted to be seated in this temple as Ranganatha ji, since then Lord Vishnu resides here as Ranganathaswamy.

The temple is made very grand. Its beauty is famous in the world. The area of ​​the temple complex is spread over 156 acres. It is even more beautiful due to the temple being located on the river Kaveri. The temple has 7 informers and 21 towers. The main gopuram here has a length of 72 meters which is also known as the royal temple tower. Two large tanks are also built in the temple named Chandra Pushkarini and Surya Pushkirini. The temple has a wooden vehicle called Yana Vahana. Above this vehicle is Lord Vishnu Virajit who looks like Mastodontaotaidaa, an elephant who was extinct 15 million years ago. The garbhagriha of the temple is decorated with a layer of gold. Everyday free food is offered to the devotees under the Anandam scheme in the temple. There is also a parampada vassal i.e. Baikuntha Lok, whose door is opened only once a year on Baikuntha Ekadashi.
