Yogini Ekadashi is the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha that falls on the month of Aashad. On the day of Yogini Ekadashi, Lord Sri Narayana and Srihari are worshipped. By observing fast on this Ekadashi all the major and minor sins of a man are washed away. If a Brahmin cut down a People Tree, then he gets liberation from performing this fast. By the virtue of this fast a curse given by a Sage also ends. Yogini Ekadashi is the Ekadashi that washes away all the sorrows of the body and provides us with beauty and fame.

Yogini Ekadashi Puja method and process-

The rules and guidelines of Yogini Ekadashi fast start from the day of Dashmi itself. Following are the steps which should be followed on the day of fast-

Step 1- consumption of salt in the food should be discarded from the tenth night itself.

Step 2- bath should be taken early morning on the day of Ekadashi.

Step 3- stay awake during the night it and chant the name of Shri Hari Vishnu.

Step 4- next day after waking up in the morning you must worship Suryanarayan and then only break your fast.

Things that should be avoided during the fast-

- Those who wish to observe this fast should not consume food made of wheat or moong dal.

- On this day you must not pluck leaves or flowers from the trees as this also disrupts the fast.

- You must not eat food from any other place other than from your home. Also do not consume food from outside on this day.

- try to speak as little as possible because the more you speak, the more the words come out of your mouth that should not be spoken. If possible you must keep your mouth shut.

Significance of Yogini Ekadashi-

By observing this fast there shall be prosperity, peace and happiness in the life of every human being. This fast is also famous in Prithvi Lok, Swarga Lok, Veda and Brahmalok. A person who observes the fast of Yogini Ekadashi will get the same fruits as feeding 88000 Brahmins. If a person observes this fast with true devotion and dedication then all his sins would come to an end.

Mythology

There was a gardener named Hem who used to work in the garden of King Kubera in the city called Alkapuri. His job was to bring Lotus flowers from Mansarovar to worship Lord Shiva. One day he got delayed to bring flowers for worship because of some discord with his wife. The king expelled him from his court for this crime. The king punished him by cursing him to become leprosy (Khodadh).  Because of this curse he started wandering from here to there. By the will of God, wandering here and there he reached the Ashram of Rishi Markandeya. The Rishi came to know about his problem with his ultimate powers. Then the Rishi sent him to duly worship the God and observe the fast of Yogini Ekadashi. Observing fast on this Ekadashi ended Hem's leprosy and he attained salvation.
