The Kumbha Sankranti is that day in the Hindu calendar when the sun enters the Aquarius from Capricorn. According to the Hindu solar calendar, it falls at the beginning of the eleventh month. On this day the auspicious time is very limited and it changes every year due to the positioning of the sun. This is the day when the largest religious festival in the world. I.e. The Kumbha Mela is held. Millions of people come for a Holy bath in the river of the Ganges, who wishes to have freedom from their previously committed sins in the past.

Kumbha Sankranti is celebrated by millions of Hindu people across the country as well as in Eastern India this festival is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm. For the people of West Bengal, this is the beginning of the Falgun month and according to the Malayalam calendar, this festival is known as Maasi Masam. Devotees during this visit the holy cities of Allahabad Haridwar Ujjain and Nasik to take a holy dip in the Ganges and offer prayers to God for their future happiness and good fortune. On this day the temple situated on the banks of these cities are full of devotees.

In the next year ie. 2021, this day is scheduled to fall on 12 February.
 

Rituals of Kumbha Sankranti day -

On the Kumbha Sankranti day, the devotees like all other Sankranti should donate to the Brahman Pandit according to their economic capacity all kinds of food items, clothing and other necessities.

In order to attain salvation on this day, taking a bath in the holy waters of the Ganga is considered very auspicious. The devotees must pray with a clean mind and divert their attention to Goddess Ganga for a happy and prosperous life.

Those people who could not manage to go to the banks of the Holy River Ganga can also be bathed in rivers like Yamuna, Godavari and Shipra to wash away all their sins.  On the day of Kumbha Sankranti, the Prasad given to the cow is considered to be very auspicious and beneficial for the devotees.

In places like Haridwar Allahabad and Godavari River in Nasik, the Kumbha Mela is celebrated once every 12 years. Men and women participate equally on this holy day. In this way in 2021, Kumbha Sankranti will fall on 12 February, Friday in which lakhs of Hindus will take part and celebrate this festival with great joy and happiness.
