Establishment of Akshardham Temple
Like Akshardham in Delhi, Akshardham temple of Gandhinagar is also dedicated to the God of Swaminarayan. The temple was built under the inspiration of Yogiji Maharaj, the fourth spiritual heir of the Swaminarayan sect, and Akshardham was founded in 1992 by Swami Maharaj, the fifth successor of the Swaminarayan sect. The Akshardham temple took more than 13 years to be built. Actually, the sage chief Swami of Narayana sect came to Gujarat from Ayodhya. He visited Himalaya, Kanchi, Srirangpur, Rameshwar. After which he came to Gujarat via Nashik, then his biography was engraved with great beauty.

Akshardham Temple Structure

A gold statue of Swaminarayan ji is installed here which is about 7 feet high. The temple is built with such beauty by the artisans that the visitors are stunned. The temple has a carved pink stone. Which starts shining like a diamond as soon as the sun comes out. The temple is built by the Swaminarayan sect.

Talking about the structure of the temple, this temple is spread over 23 acres. 6000 metric tons of pink stone were sourced from Rajasthan for the construction of the temple. The temple consists of 97 carved columns, 17 domes, 8 balconies, 220 stone beams and 264 sculptures. The height of the temple is 108 feet, length 240 feet and width 131 feet. The specialty of this temple is that no cement is used here. The Hari Mandap located in the first floor of Akshardham Temple is considered to be the holiest site of the temple. Tourists come here not only from the country but also from abroad to visit. There is a garden in the Akshardham temple which has a fountain. Akshardham Temple Opening Time - Akshardham Temple is opened from 9.30 am to 7.30 pm. Aarti is performed at 10 in the morning and 6.30 in the evening. The temple complex remains closed on Monday.
